Details: We are hybrids. All non-African people alive today are descended from Neanderthals, whose native population declined to zero about 40,000 years ago. Their DNA became subsumed into Homo sapiens (us) genome via interbreeding during the 5,000 years of their coexistence in Europe and the Middle East.
