Death with Dignity (Euthanasia)

Our First Meeting

Many HUSBAY members have indicated a wish for a group which focuses upon individual choice in the moment of their death. Consequently, a new HUSBAY SIG will be focus upon what’s happening in the US and the World concerning Death with Dignity.

The End of Life group met at the Gulfgate Library on Saturday, Feb 28, 2015. No new meetings are scheduled at this time. For more information, click here.

This page also represents the current status of doctor-assisted end
of life actions, prohibited in 46 U.S. States and the District of Columbia.

There are several links to other information on euthanasia, which
we would like to call "Death With Dignity" or "Graceful Exit".

What HUSBAY Members Say About Death With Dignity

Comments from Judy Wysnewski:

1.  The present options available to us to die with dignity legally are not pleasant.  The method that Final Exit recommends (bag over head and helium balloon apparatus) would be as impossible as shooting a gun in one's temple to many of us.  Probably the best option out there is Hospice (provides adequate doses of morphine if you are declining from a painful terminal illness).

2.  Even though it might seem impossible to pass something like Oregon has on this issue here in Florida, it could have enough support to go forward.  We have an older population,  and I believe that even those who disagree with progressive thinking on other issues would be in agreement on this one.

3.  Present methods that desperate people try are sometimes not effective and can leave one in a worse state than the one that drove them to try.   Sure method(s) of attaining the goal should be made available to all interested.

Comments by Barry Zack:

The world appears to be divided as far as their end-of-life policies are concerned. It makes for very difficult decisions for physicians who wish to do the right thing, but are hampered by confusing rules and laws.
